SOUTH BEND, IN -
Maria “Magda” Canul, 79, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.
Maria was born November 16, 1941 in Brownsville, Texas to the late Enrique and Beatrice (Salas) Hernandez. On September 19, 1959, she married Armando Canul, Sr. also from Brownsville, TX. He preceded her in death along with their son, Mario Canul; and seven of her siblings.
Left to cherish the memory of Maria are her children, Armando (Sylvia) Canul, Jr., Emilio (Kathy) Canul, Maria Sylvia (Canul) Bautista, Maria Irma Canul, Gilberto (Tracy) Canul, Sr., and Edwardo H. Canul, Sr.; many precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Juan (Maria) Hernandez and Robert (Sally) Hernandez; sister-in-law, Rita (Jesus) Valdez; and her best friend/sister, Terry Garza, to whom the family would like to give a special thanks for all your love and support, and always standing by Magda's side.
In Maria's younger years she played softball on a Tex-Mex team called the Las Tejanas. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, music, and playing on dart & bowling leagues. Maria retired from Notre Dame in 2006 and remained an avid Notre Dame football fan. Maria was a hardworking woman who dedicated her life to her family. Family gatherings brought her the most joy.
Visitation will be 2:00pm-7:00pm, Friday, January 22, 2021 at St. Joseph Funeral Home, Mayflower Rd. with a Rosary to be prayed at 3:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am, Saturday, January 23, 2021 at St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
