We were so sorry to hear of Mark's passing. Mary probably doesn't remember us, but we rented their beautiful Long Lake home several times starting in 2009. We had rented on this lake every year since and eventually bought our own home to enjoy here full time. Mark was a sweet man and my husband loved how nice he was to our family. We are grateful that Mary and Mark were the start of our Long Lake story. It's a precious story to us. God bless Mary.

Mark was a friendly, hardworking man with a warm voice and smile for everyone. I will miss his laugh and his tall tales. The last time I saw him, in November at a Birthday party at he and Mary hosted at their lake house in White Pigeon, MI. I was early for the party so he proudly gave me a tour of their house - a beautiful 4 bedroom house he built mostly by himself, looking out over a small scenic lake. He was a good host, setting up an outdoor TV screen by their dock to watch the Notre Dame game by a bonfire. I met Mark and Mary when my husband Mike Scholine and I and our children Sam and Heather, moved into Mark and Mary's River Park neighborhood (Hildreth St.) around 1981. We and our other neighbors - the Armstrongs/VanderBoschs and Seagos, their families and their many other friends had kids around the same age who hung out together also. This group that Mark and the rest of us have been part of for over 30 years has been nourished by the annual men's camping trips to the Elkhart Lake WI car races and the women's Annual camping trips to Indiana and Southwestern Michigan State Parks were the settings for many many good times for all of us. Mark and the rest of us are like an extended family -- the result of good luck, loving life, paying attention, loyalty and generosity...even though we are of different religions, parties, races and backgrounds.
