Patricia VanDePutte Obituary

Patricia “Patti”

VanDePutte

Dec. 7, 1954 - March 14, 2018

MISHAWAKA - After fiercely fighting lung cancer for over three years, Patricia (Patti) VanDePutte passed away surrounded by loved ones in her home on Wednesday, March 14, 2018.

She was born on December 7, 1954 in Yonkers, New York to John J. Brady and Rose Ellen Brady. Left to honor her memory is the love of her life, Jerry VanDePutte of Mishawaka. Her children are son, Ryan (Meghan) VanDePutte of Naperville, Illinois; and daughter, Kate (Brett) Pangallo of Greenwood, Indiana. Grandchildren include Connor VanDePutte, Emerson Pangallo, and Brynlee Pangallo. Siblings are John (Linda) Brady of South Bend, IN, Barb (Drew) Danik of South Bend, IN, Tom (Colleen) Brady of Granger, IN, and Carol Sellers of Mishawaka, IN.

Patti loved being outdoors, whether she was gardening, tending to the yard, enjoying the pool, or going on walks or bike rides with her family. She loved the beach and grew up spending her summers out at the Jersey Shore with her East Coast cousins and family. She devoted many years as an aide to children with special needs within the Mishawaka School District before working in the same department at Penn High School. Most recently, she worked at Hull Lift Truck within the Accounting Department. Patti was dedicated and devoted to her family. She was a loving mother and spouse who always went out of her way to be there and spend meaningful time with those she loved. Besides her love for her husband and children, perhaps her greatest blessings were her three grandbabies, whom she adored.

Patti was the epitome of health and spent a lot of time at the gym or doing physical activity. Her strength and health was something many admired about her. Her willingness to fight and strength to endure three years of various intense treatments left us all in awe of her capabilities and inspired many.

A special thank you to all those who cared for Patti throughout her fight, including Dr. Hanna with the IU Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis, IN, Dr. Zon with Michiana Hematology, Oncology, Mishawaka, IN, Dr. Kio with the Goshen Center for Cancer Care, and the nurses and staff from the Center for Hospice of South Bend, IN.

Patti's love and spirit will be greatly missed. A visitation will be held at Hahn Funeral Home, Mishawaka on Monday, March 19 from 3-7 p.m. A Mass in her name will be at St. Anthony de Padua Church on Tuesday, March 20 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made for lung cancer research, payable to American Lung Association in Indiana, 115 W. Washington St., Suite 1180S, Indianapolis, IN 46204.

Jerry you may never see this but I've been thinking of Patti a lot lately. As you know we were very good friends for years before she met you and meeting you was the best thing that ever happened to her. I remember her telling me that one way or another she was gonna have you forever! You were her life and I hope you find some comfort in knowing that she loved from day one!
I know we went our separate ways as we both got married and started our new lives with the ones we loved but I always thought of her and missed our friendship. I pray she is safe and warm in Gods love and we will meet again. Remember how people use to call me Alice and Patti the three Amigos all of us with long long hair we did have some wild fun us three lol
Love you Jerry

I was so, so saddened to learn of Patti's passing. I knew her as a warm and bright person who loved all of you very much. I can only hope that your memories of her can provide some comfort in time.
