Patrick McGraw Obituary

Nov. 15, 1950 - Dec. 24, 2008
SOUTH BEND - Patrick Jamison McGraw died December 24, 2008, in his South Bend, Indiana, home. Pat was born on November 15, 1950, in Fort Morgan, Colorado, to Janice L. McGraw and Herschel D. McGraw. Raised in Fort Collins, Colorado, he attended Fort Collins High School and then Shattuck Military Academy of Faribault, Minnesota, before attending the University of Notre Dame on a football scholarship. In 1973 Pat returned to Fort Collins after receiving his BS in finance from ND where he started his own business gathering and hauling moss rock among other ventures. It was there that Pat first became involved in real estate development as he worked with his father, H.D., in building the Coachlight apartments in northeast Fort Collins. Always an entrepreneurial individual, Pat returned to South Bend in 1983 where he soon began a successful career in real estate development and property management. His vision regarding the development potential around the Notre Dame campus was realized when he built the Jamison Inn in 1986 and Oak Hill condominium complex in 1988. Both projects were important precursors to the current development activity surrounding campus. Pat's imprint in South Bend was not limited to his professional pursuits as he actively worked within the disabled community and youth athletics, both of which were important causes to him. Pat's true passion, though, was his family, and his devotion to those he loved was unmatched. As a father, friend and companion, he will be sorely missed. Pat was predeceased by his father, H.D., and two brothers, Hersch and Greg McGraw. He is survived by his mother, Jan; sister, Jenny McGraw; two children, Patrick (Lindsey) McGraw and Jamie McGraw; longtime companion and soul mate, Missy Bornheimer; as well as a wonderful group of loyal friends. Arrangements are being handled by the McGann-Hay Funeral Home, and a private memorial service will be held early next month. Inquiries may be directed through McGann-Hay. Memorial contributions may be made to Logan Center of South Bend, IN, or to Hospice of St. Joseph County, IN.

Dearest Packy and Jamie: Your extended family grieves for you. You will remain in our thoughts and prayers as you struggle through this tremendous loss. You have a wonderful family: Mom, grandmothers, aunts, uncles and cousins to lean on during this time of sorrow.

Mrs. McGraw & Jenny: My heartfelt condolences on your loss. No mother should know the pain of having to bury three children nor should any sibling. You, too, will remain in my thoughts and prayers.

We were so sorry to hear of Pat's passing. We have many fond memories of Pat & his family. As a family, we attended many Notre Dame football games over the years and Pat always took care of us - making sure that we had accomodations and tickets. He was always so kind and had a smile on his face at all times........ He was a very good friend of both my brothers, Jim & John Greer who will miss him dearly. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time.
