Patrick Pomes Obituary

March 14, 1949 - Sept. 21, 2013
SOUTH BEND - Patrick E. Pomes was born on March 14, 1949, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He died at his home in South Bend, Indiana, on September 21, 2013. He was a 1967 graduate of Downers Grove High School, a 1971 graduate from Bradley University, and held an MBA from the University of Chicago. Patrick was employed by Allied-Signal Corporation, (now Honeywell), in February 1991. He retired in March 2013 from his position as a corporate planner. Pat began teaching as an adjunct professor for Indiana Tech University in July 2008. This quickly became his passion as Pat took great joy in teaching and forming lasting relationships with his students. Pat had a gift for encouraging and mentoring former students, and quite often they would contact Pat for assistance and advice. Pat took the time to know his students personally and, because of this, Pat has touched a great many students at Indiana Tech and later at Purdue University of South Bend. Pat is survived by his wife, Debbie Hudson; son, Franklin Hudson-Pomes; son, David Pomes; and granddaughter, Emma Rose Pomes; and daughter, Jennifer Pomes-Lange. He is also survived by four younger brothers, James, Joe, Paul and Robert. Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, Adrian and Irene Pomes; and his older brother, John Pomes. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 25, from 6-8 pm at the McGann Hay, Granger, Chapel, 13260 SR 23, enter off Cherry Road. Interment will be held Thursday at Glen Cemetery in Paxton, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Indiana Tech University, Office of Institutional Advancement, 1600 E. Washington Blvd, Fort Wayne, IN 46803, to be used as a student scholarship. Please put Pat Pomes Memorial Scholarship on the memo line. Details for these services and contributions will be posted on the McGann Hay website, www.mcgannhay.com. You may also leave messages for the family at the website.

I was sad to hear of Pat's passing. I worked with Pat many moons ago at Honeywell. He always had a smile on his face and always seemed upbeat. Honeywell was lucky to have him. Memories of Pat will keep him with you always. My condolences.

What a great person Pat was. He made me laugh when the whole world seemed to be coming to an end at work. He became really energized when he got the opportunity to help someone. He wasn't afraid to step forward when the rest of us were looking for a place to hide. I enjoyed working with Pat, but it was evident to me that his passion was teaching. I'm sure that he was a great one. God speed, Pat, you are leaving a void that I'm not sure will be easily filled. My condolences to Pat's wife, children and the long list of friends.
