Ray Vanett Obituary

Ray Vanett, Sr. Apr. 28, 1934 - Jan. 3, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Ray A. Vanett, Sr., 80, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away at 2:11 PM Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Cardinal Nursing Home and Rehabilitation, South Bend. Ray was born on April 28, 1934 in South Bend to the late Lawrence and Marie (Hickey) Vanett. On August 5, 2001 in South Bend, he was united in marriage to Yong-Im Joo Vanett, who survives. Ray worked as a Systems Technician with Ameritech for 42 years before retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Communication Workers of American Local 4900 and a member of the Indiana Chapter of Pioneers. Ray also previously served on the Board of Directors for Walnut Grove. Ray attended and previously served as Pastor of the First Spiritual Church, South Bend. Ray is survived by his daughters, Roxann (Brian) Wing of Niles and Denise Vanett of South Bend; son, Ray (Betty) Vanett, Jr. of South Bend; 10 grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; and brother, Don Vanett of South Bend. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Marie Vanett; two sisters, Marge Simcox and Eloise Kaminski; and brothers, Dee Vanett and Roy Vanett. Funeral Services for Ray will be 11:00 AM Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 11AM 2PM and 6-8 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Indiana School for the Deaf, 1200 East 42nd Street, Indianapolis, IN 46205-2099. Ray, Roxanne and Denise i am so sorry for your loss. Your dad was one of my favorite people. Growing up with Ray as a neighbor and a friend is a memory I will cherish. I am sorry that I didn't make it to the viewing.
