Richard “Dick” Rymer

Sept. 1, 1918 - June 12, 2017

DANSVILLE, MI - Richard “Dick” Rymer, age 98, formerly of South Bend, died peacefully on Monday, June 12, 2017. Mr. Rymer was born September 1, 1918, in Chicago, IL, to the late David and Jeanette (Sturm) Rymer.

On September 2, 1945, Richard married the former Ruth Tolley. They celebrated 54 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 1999. Three sisters, Florence Morrison, Genevieve Medow and Evelyn Pollyea, and brother, Barry Rymer, also preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory are two sons, Roger Allen Rymer of Elkhart, IN, and James Michael (Denise) Rymer of Danville, MI; and grandson, Noah Rymer of Kalamazoo, MI.

Mr. Rymer was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He proudly served our country as an Army Corporal during World War II, where he was wounded and received a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in 1947. He and Ruth were active members of Temple Emanuel, while residing in Grand Rapids, and an active member of Temple Beth-El in South Bend.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, with burial to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made on behalf of Richard Rymer to Temple Beth-El.

I will never forget our days in Grand Rapids living next door to Dick, Ruth Roger and Jamie.
I will never forget what a wonderful friendship I had with Dick.
I don't know why, but six years later, I all but knew that Dick had passed and I punched in his obituary into google and sure enough - so sorry !!

Sorry to hear about your dad Roger and Jamie. I always remember having a Hanukkah dinner with your family. Mom enjoyed their friendship. Saxony was an interesting place to live.
