Robert Ditsler Obituary

Robert G. Ditsler

May 12, 1935 - Dec. 21, 2018

SOUTH BEND, IN - Robert G. Ditsler passed away peacefully on December 21, 2018 at The Grand Emerald Place in South Bend. He was born May 12, 1935 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Harry and Rosella (Longley) Ditsler. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Larry Ditsler. Surviving are: the love of his life, Linda (Ramey) Ditsler of 61 years, along with 3 sons, Neil (Linda) Ditsler, Dana (Patricia) Ditsler, and Paul (Cyndi) Ditsler; 8 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and brothers, Gene (Marge) Ditsler and Bill (Linda) Ditsler. Robert (Bob) was inducted into the United States Air Force on Jan. 11, 1955 and retired on Feb. 29, 1980. While in the USAF, he served as an aerospace physiological training instructor who was involved in high altitude pressure suit training for the flight test center, and for the NASA flight research center at Edwards AFB, CA. After retirement he was a hyperbaric chamber technician for several medical facilities across the U.S. until full retirement in 1993.

Bob had a special love for all things aviation. He was a private pilot who held a commercial, multi-engine and instrument rating. As a member of the South Bend Radio Control Club, he engaged in building and flying model airplanes. He enjoyed sharing his love of aviation through presentations to community organizations and schools. He was a member of Southside Christian Church, and served as an Elder & Sunday school teacher at many churches throughout his life.

Bob loved spending time with family and friends. He had a beautiful spirit, loved to make people laugh, and was a blessing to all who knew him. There will be no formal services at this time and cremation will take place. A gathering for family and friends will be held on a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice Care at 230 West Catalpa Drive, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
