ELKHART - Robert Harridge, 84, passed away at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2010, in Hospice House of Elkhart. Robert was born June 23, 1926, in Mitchellville, IA, to the late William and Clarice (Smith) Harridge. On February 4, 1949, he married Beverly Cline in Mitchellville. She survives along with a son, Steven Harridge of Mitchellville, IA, and a daughter, Nancy (Simon) Pimblott-Harridge of Lancashire, England; four grandchildren, Jenny (Brad) Craig of Urbandale, IA, Jared (Jessica) Harridge of Des Moine, IA, Robyn (Jacob) Groshek of Troy, OH, Erin (John) Billington of Nolansville, TN; five great-grandchildren, Sam Craig, Jack Craig, Grace Billington, J.T. Billington and Lucy Groshek; two sisters, Audrey Warland of Webster City, IA, and Karen (Louis) Vosburg of Manson, IA; a brother, Gary Roberts, and sister-in-law, Rose Roberts, of Cape Cod, MA. Robert honorably and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II. He retired from Maytag in 1981 where he worked as a pipefitter. Robert loved gardening, wood working and to BBQ. He loved his family dearly including his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Robert had a great love for life and was known for his practical jokes. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, December 13, 2010, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 1827 E. Ireland Road. A funeral service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. (Central Time) on Monday, December 20, 2010, in First United Methodist Church, 200 2nd St. NW, Mitchellville, IA 50169. Burial will follow at Mitchellville Cemetery, Mitchellville, IA.
