SOUTH BEND - South Bend-Tomas Alvarez, 53, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.

Tomas was born December 5, 1963 in San Juan, TX to the late Victoriano and Rafaela (Lara) Alvarez. Tomas was also preceded in death by his brothers, Victor, Reynaldo, Rojelio & Nazario Alvarez.

Life love of Tomas, Charlene Perkins survives along with their children, Cecilia (Robert) Garcia, Sophia Perkins, Tomas (Christine) Alvarez Jr., Julia Alvarez, Christal Alvarez, and Angel Perkins; sisters, Alma Rosa Alvarez, Araceli Santana, Vilma Alvarez; grandchildren, Antonio, Vivianna, Solaina, Jocelyn, Joe, Rose, Jason, Marcello Tomas, and Serenity.

“Big Tom” was a great dad and grandpa who loved being with his grandchildren. Time spent with family meant the most to him in life. He was a very hard working and generous man, always willing to help anyone in need. Big Tom worked for McCunne Masonry for many years. He was a Green Bay and Cubs fan. Everyone who met Big Tom loved him, family and friends, he will be greatly missed.

Friends and family may gather for a Celebration of Life from 12 PM to 6 PM on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, beginning with a Service at 12:00pm immediately followed by a dinner in the American Legion, Post #284, 23571 Grant Road, South Bend.

I love you Dad your were took from us too soon, But you have no more pain and my heart feels a little at ease because your not suffering anymore. My belated condolences, I grew up with Tommy in the 70s, in south bend.I can remember one night he took his sister's car,he could barely see over the steering wheel.but that didn't discourage tommy..we drove to the theater too see reffer madness..every time I hear of that movie,reminds me of the great times on the west side of south bend...R.I.P my brother.....
