MISHAWAKA - Vera Emily Mc Kown, 89, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Hospice House in South Bend.
Vera was born on December 10, 1927 in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan to James and Thelma (Wise) Yeack. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Clayton Yeack, sister, Roberta Jean Ellis and a son, Robin Mc Kown.
On January 23, 1952 in Drafter, MI she married Albert Mc Kown. He also preceded her in death.
Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Becky Mc Kown of Mishawaka and Don and Shelly Hoyt, whom she thought of as her children.
Vera loved her dogs, Rufus the Dufus, Red Hot Chili Pepper, Butterbean and Pipsqueek.
Vera moved to Michiana in 1951 coming from Sault Ste Marie, MI.
She was a Registered Nurse and worked at Healthwin Hospital for five years before she retired in 1975. She was a member of Di Amici's and BK Club Ladies Auxiliary.
As per Vera's wishes, there will be no public visitation. Private burial will be in Ferrisville Cemetery, Mishawaka. Hahn Funeral Home, Mishawaka has been entrusted with handling the final arrangements.
