Walter Hartstein Obituary
SOUTH BEND - Walter F. Hartstein III, 46, of Locust Road, South Bend, passed away at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 15th, in his residence after suffering an apparent heart attack. Mr. Hartstein was born on November 26, 1962, in South Bend, and was a resident of the Michiana area his lifetime. Walter is survived by a daughter, Corinne N. Hartstein of Osceola, IN; and a son, Chad B. (Rebecca) Hartstein of South Bend; his father, W. Fred Hartstein of South Bend; and by a nephew, Eric A. Hartstein Jr. of South Bend; a brother, Eric A. Hartstein Sr. of South Bend; and also by three grandchildren whom he loved and cherished, Brandon, Brianna and Hannah. Mr. Hartstein was preceded in death by his loving mother, Christine (Farler) Hartstein on July 6, 2009. Walter was employed for many years at Mohawk Door Co. in South Bend prior to his health problems. He was a 1981 graduate of Washington High School. He loved bowling and golf, and was an avid Notre Dame football fan and Chicago Cubs fan. Walter wished to be cremated which his family honored and a memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Friday in the Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23, South Bend. Friends visited with the family from 6 to 7 p.m. The family request that, in lieu of flowers, please make all memorial contributions to the Catholic Workers House. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and services and extends its deepest sympathy to the Hartstein family.

Eric and The Hartstein Family,
My prayers go out to all of you. Walt was a big brother to me. I remember how he always coached me and Eric in every sport in our yards on Edison or on the fields at Matthys or Navarre. He will be greatly missed.

I am shocked and saddened to hear the news. I remember Walt from WHS and then with the kids at Jr. Bowling. What a great person. So sorry for your loss.

Please accept my deepest sympathies from the Kelley family. Walter & Eric was our Saturday football buddies when we lived on the East-side, we could always depend on them to come-out to play. As we grew older, we ended-up playing for the same high school team. May your memories be cherished by your family & friends, can't wait to see you in the huddle once again.

the hurley family would like to send our condolences to the hartstein family. we have many fond memories of walt , for many years we watched him and the other neighborhood kids growing up and having familes of their own. walt was funny and nice,and was always willing to lend a helping hand. our prayers are with you as you go through this diffucult time. god bless you all
