William G. Gerbeth

SOUTH BEND - William George Gerbeth, 88, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 5:10 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2016, due to complications with Alzheimer's at St. Paul Memory Care. He was born on February 18, 1928, in South Bend, IN, to the late Max and Frieda (Mueller) Gerbeth. On February 3, 1951, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, South Bend, he was united in marriage to Betty Jean (Fought) Gerbeth.

Mr. Gerbeth is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Gerbeth; four daughters, Susan (Paul) Jones of Hillsborough, NC, Roxanne (Lee) Ewing of South Bend, IN, Valerie (William) Strycker of South Bend, IN, and Cynthia (Roger) Duff of Paw Paw, MI; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and brother, Gerhart Gerbeth of Uniontown, OH. He was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Ryan Ewing.

Mr. Gerbeth was a lifelong resident. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II. He was a tool & die maker working for South Bend Tool & Die, Adams Engineering and Capital Technology. Mr. Gerbeth was a charter member of Hilltop Lutheran Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent. He loved to hunt, fish and garden. He was a good father, grandfather and husband, and will be dearly missed.

Funeral services will be held at a later date. Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, is assisting the family.
