LAWRENCE COPLEY
ROBINETTE, W.Va. — Lawrence "Tom" Copley, 81, of Robinette, departed this life Mon., June 8, 2015, from his home after a sudden illness.
Born March 27, 1934, at Hetzel, he was a son of the late Blaine and Chattie Bell Moore Copley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Tennis, Blaine Jr., Andrew "Dutter", and Howard Copley; two sisters, Lorraine Tackett and Irene Sugg, and two nephews, Blaine "Bub" Copley III and Jonathan Copley.
Tom was a coal miner formerly employed with Arch of WV who retired in 1995. He was a member of the UMWA local 5958 and was a U.S. Army veteran. Tom was an excellent cook who enjoyed cooking for family and friends. Everyone loved his chicken and dumplings and cornbread. Tom loved his family and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren and a very special great-grandchild.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 45 years, Ruth Copley; one daughter, Chattie (Josh) McKinney of Accoville; two sons, Anthony Copley of Beckley and Johnny (Paula) Copley of Bunnlevel, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Tommy Copley of Colo., Johnny D. Copley of San Antonio, Texas, Autumn (Chris) McKinney of Logan, Bernie Kilgore of Robinette, Lauren Copley and Colton Copley, both of Bunnlevel, and Brody and Bentley McKinney, both of Accoville; one special great-grandson, Lucian McKinney of Logan; two brothers, Ralph Copley of Taylor, Mich., and Rev. Frank (Lila) Copley of Combs Addition; one sister, Beulah Doty of Kistler; a special niece, Rosalyn (Bobby) Beddow of Accoville; many other nieces and nephews along with a host of relatives and friends.
Services will be held at noon Fri., June 12, at Man Church of God with Rev. Donald Lafferty officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to services Friday at the church at the church.
