Samuel Ellis Obituary

Samuel N. Ellis, 93, of Medford, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at home.

Born in Lumberton, Sam lived in Medford most of his life. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific during WWII. Sam served as Past Commander for the VFW Post 7677 in Medford, and held many State positions for the VFW. He was also Past President of the Union Fire Company in Medford, and retired as Maintenance Supervisor for the Lenape School District.

Father of the late Barbara Ellis; husband of the late Eleanor Ellis; he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Joseph Cucinotta of Spokane Valley, WA; his son and two daughters-in-law, Thomas and Theresa Ellis of St. Simons Island, GA, and Phyllis Ellis of Knoxville, TN; his brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Imogene Ellis of Mustang, OK; his sister Ruth Dunn of Indianapolis, IN; 2 sisters-in-law, Jerretta Thomas of Medford, and Irene Ellis of Gladstone, NJ; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call on Monday, April 11, 2011 from 6-8PM, and again on Tuesday, April 12, from 10-11AM, at the Mathis Funeral Home, 58 N. Main St., Medford, (609) 654-2439. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11AM, at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in the Methodist Cemetery in Medford.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Sam's memory to the VFW Post 7677, 317 Church Rd., Medford, NJ 08055; or to the Union Fire Company, 1 Firehouse Lane, Medford, NJ 08055.
