HARRY ZAPPALA

Harry Zappala Harry 'Big Harry' Zappala, 83, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, July 15, 2018. Harry was born in New Jersey to the late Alfio and Mary (LaRosa) Zappala. His marriage in 1964 to Charlotte A. Surratt was held in Swedesboro, NJ, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She still survives. Harry retired from his family business, Buddy's Tavern, in 2000. Harry was also a retired Captain in the NJ Army Reserves, a Swedesboro reserve police officer, and served on the Swedesboro Council. He enjoyed working side by side with his brother, Russell, at Buddy's and was well-known for his roast beef recipe, as well as dirtying every pot in the bar just to boil water! He enjoyed to go clamming and crabbing with his loving sister, Pauline, in beautiful Stone Harbor. His garden was impressive in addition to his appetite for a good meal with his friends from the Racoon Club. He spent as much time as he could spare traveling to the Cayman Islands, Italy, and other fun destinations. Harry spent the last 5 years with his son, daughter in law, and grandson in West Lafayette, IN. He enjoyed reading the newspaper, an occasional cigar on the deck with 'Little Harry' and watching Giovonni excel in school and sports. He is survived not only by his loving wife Charlotte, but also his son, Harry A. (wife, Laura) Zappala of West Lafayette, IN; his daughter, Susan C. Zappala of NJ; his sister, Pauline (husband, Robert) McClure of Stone Harbor, NJ, and his brother, Russell C. (wife, Sheryl) Zappala of Stone Harbor, NJ. His two grandsons adored him as much as he loved them; Giovonni A. Zappala of West Lafayette and Zachary J. Pearce of NJ. His is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. Family and friends are welcome to visit from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, July 22, 2018, at the Daley Life Celebration Studio, 1518 Kings Hwy, Swedesboro, NJ 08085. The funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 23, 2018, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 130 Broad St, Swedesboro, NJ 08085 at 1:00 pm. Additional visitation will be held before mass at the Daley Studio from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Interment will follow mass at the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 240 N.
