Marian Smith Turner

Marian Smith Turner Elmer, N.J. Marian Smith Turner, age 97, a lifelong resident of the Elmer area, passed away on April 19, 2019. Born in Upper Pittsgrove to the late Aubrey and Edna (Woolman) Smith, she was a 1940 graduate of Bridgeton High School. Marian was an accomplished homemaker who provided many of the family's favorite dishes. She was the ultimate gardener and will especially be remembered for her summer jellies and jams, and everyone's favorite Christmas fudge. Marian was a skilled seamstress and made many of her own clothes and those for her children while growing up. She was a skilled crafter and sold hand-made doll clothes at local craft shows. The grandchildren especially appreciated the sock monkey doll she made for each one of them. Marian was a former member of the Aldine United Methodist Church, was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and worked for many years as a substitute rural mail carrier for Elmer RD #2. She was an avid fan of, and took great joy in listening to, the Irish singer Daniel O'Donnell. But Marian will always be remembered by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren for her truly loving kindness and care. Marian is survived by her sons Donn L. Turner (Irene) of Williamsburg, VA and Jere J. Turner (Marsha) of Concord, NH, her daughter Diane Dotti of Sebastian, FL, eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband James C. Turner, Jr., her son Gene C. Turner, three sisters and a brother. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 11 AM at the Aldine United Methodist Church Cemetery, 780 Friesburg Aldine Road, Elmer, NJ 08318.
