Craig Potkay Obituary

Craig Potkay, 75, of East Bridgewater, died November 22, 2018 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice in Scarborough, Maine. He was the husband of Virginia A (Stanton) Potkay. He was born in New Bedford, Mass. son of Boleslaw and Ethel (Nemec) Potkay, he was a long time resident of East Bridgewater and after retirement spent much of his time in Raymond, ME. Craig was a 1961 graduate of Fairhaven High School and a recipient of an Associate in Science degree from Dean College in Franklin, Mass.. He subsequently earned a Bachelors Degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa., and a master's degree from Bridgewater State University. He traveled throughout the United States with his family over many years, visiting numerous historical and recreational sites. Besides his wife Virginia he is survived by his three daughters, Tara Firth, Sally Potkay and Tanya Egan; a brother Stephen Potkay; six grandchildren, Eric Levy, Ryan and Jessica Firth, Christina and Melinda LaTremouille, and Amber Egan: two great-grandchildren; Nicholas Wakefield and Lily Kiely, as well as several nieces and nephews. A memorial service is planned at the United Methodist Church, East Bridgewater, MA on December 27, 2018 at 12 p.m. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven, MA at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his honor to: Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 US Rte. Dad I just wanted to thank you for being the best Dad ever!! I know I wasn't easy when I was younger and you were just trying to teach me. I thank you for being the man you were strong but you had so much love for Mom and all of your girls. I know we put you through a lot. I always no matter what never questioned your love for me!! You were the best role model as a man!!! Thank you for being a great Pa to all of your grand kids. For the record I'm so happy I gave you 2 grandsons. You and Eric had a special bond you taught him so much and he is a great man now because of you!! He wanted to you to be proud of him like you were to him!! Ryan is becoming that man too!! All of my kids respected you and looked up to you!! I love you Dad forever and always!! May you Rest In Peace my sweet loving Daddy!! Love Tara
