Louis Jantomaso Obituary

Louis G. Jantomaso, 83, of Brockton, passed away peacefully Friday, June 28, 2013 at his home after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his loving family, who had been caring for him. Born May 4, 1930 in Brockton, he was the son of the late Matteo Jantomaso and Nice (Urbani) Jantomaso. A lifelong Brocktonian, he proudly grew up in Ward 2 and attended Brockton Schools. Louis served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Osaka, Japan. After serving his country during the war, Louis was employed at the Brockton VA Hospital, worked on the Campanelli Homes with South Shore Paint Co., and later retired as warehouse manager from Frito-Lay. Louis was a devout Catholic and a man of great faith and spirituality. He was proud of his Italian-American heritage, and was an active member of ITAM Vets Post 62. He enjoyed postal memorabilia and learning about the history of Brockton. An avid sports fan, Lou played baseball as a child at James Edgar Playground, and continued playing while in the service. However, his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his adoring grandson, Matthew, of whom he was so proud. Louis was the beloved husband of Norma M. (Galante) Jantomaso for 59 years. He was the loving father of Michael L. Jantomaso and Lisa (Jantomaso) Cunningham, both of Brockton. He was the devoted grandfather of Matthew C. Cunningham, of Brockton; and brother of John Jantomaso (and Shirley), Philomena Jantomaso and Lucille LaFranchise (and Joseph), all of Brockton. He is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Daniel Jantomaso, Joseph Jantomaso, Ida Albanese, Angelina Mussari and Patrick Jantomaso. He was the brother-in-law of the late Glenda (Galante) Augenti. Funeral from the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rte. 123), Brockton on Wednesday at 8 a.m. thence to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 439 West St., Brockton where a funeral Mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 9 a.m. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. Calling hours Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to either Old Colony Hospice, 1 Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02368; or to Providence College Music Department, 1 Cunningham Square, Providence, RI 02918. Dear Norma and family,
I am so very sorry for your loss. Mr. Jantomaso was such a kind man. Every year when my lilacs bloom out here in California, they remind me of your huge lilac bushes that we walked passed every day to the school bus. They were the signal that summer was just around the corner. May he rest in peace.
