Robert M. Holmes

West Bridgewater Robert M. Holmes, age 90 years, of West Bridgewater, died at his home, Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008. He was the loving husband of Grace L. (Drakeley) Holmes. Born Aug. 1, 1918, in Abington, he was a son of the late Herbert W. and Mattie E. (Johnson) Holmes. Robert was a graduate of the former Boston High School of Commerce and had been a resident of West Bridgewater since 1952. He was a member of the Cochesett Methodist Church in West Bridgewater and had worked for 23 years, retiring at age 65, from the former Independence Nail. He was an avid gardener and runner, running several Boston Marathons and marathons in other states. In addition to his wife Grace, he is survived by two daughters, Gillian C. Ouellet and her husband Kenneth of Halifax and Elizabeth A. Glaspey and her husband Duane of Middleboro; four grandchildren, Michael S. Cassiani, Dennis Cassiani, Danelle C. Baldwin and Kenneth M. Glaspey; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Winnifred A. Landry and her husband John of Hingham; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late George W. Holmes and Edith L. Freel. At Roberts request, his body has been donated to Boston University School of Medicine for the advance of medical science. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at 3 p.m. in the Cochesett Methodist Church, 517 West Center St., West Bridgewater, MA 02379. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Cochesett Methodist Church or to Old Colony Hospice, 1 Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA.
