Robert F. Thornton, 85, a resident of Easton for the past 51 years, died Friday, February 3, 2017 at Good Samaritan Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the husband of Althea A. A veteran of the Korean War, he served as a corporal in the US Army. Robert was employed as a regional credit manager for Taunton Silversmiths for many years. Robert was member of both the VFW and the American Legion in Easton, the Natural Resource Trust of Easton, a life member of the Easton Lions Club and a member of St. Marks Episcopal Church of Easton. In addition to his wife Althea, he is survived by three children, Jeanne L. LaPensee of Tampa, FL., Barry S. Thornton of Norton, and Meredith Porter of Ponte Vedra, FL.; and 4 grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Ted Thornton. To Althea and family, I have had the pleasure of knowing Bob for many years as a member of the town's police department and then as Commander of the Legion Post that he was a member of. You were both a fixture at the police sponsored events for the senior citizens of the town, which is how I met Bob. I was also proud to be a fellow soldier as well as a comrade in the Legion Post. He was so proud of his days as a medic during the Korean War. It was very obvious that he cared deeply for the community. On behalf of Bob's brothers and sisters at Post 7, please accept our deepest and heartfelt sympathies and prayers at this time. He will be missed. God Bless you all at this time.

In Comradeship,

Jim McAvoy
