Roger Perron Obituary

Roger N. Pit Perron, 78, a lifelong resident of Brockton, died May 19, 2015, following a long cancer battle. He was a 1954 Brockton High School graduate and later enlisted in the U.S. Army where he proudly served for two years both in the U.S. and Germany. Roger worked for The Enterprise in Brockton from 1965 until his retirement in 2002, and later, for some time, went to work for the Taunton/Raynham Racetrack. He was a member of the Club National and D.W. Field Golf Course for over 50 years. Pit was an active member and promoter of the Brockton Boxing Scene and Brockton After Dark. His love of the sport started while in the Army and when he returned to Brockton following his service, became involved with the Petronelli Bros. Gym; this about the same time Marvin Hagler came to train with Goody Petronelli. He became a big fan and supporter of Marvin and attended as many of his fights as possible. Pit helped train many of the local amateur boxers, Tony Petronelli and Mike Cappiello most notably. Upon his retirement from The Enterprise, he helped Mike Cappiello open his own gym and continued to train fighters until 6 months ago. Roger was the son of the late Henry and Delia (Desgrosseilliers) Perron; the beloved father of Michelle MacRae and her husband Roderick of Whitman and Robert E. Perron of Boston; devoted and fun Grampy to Connor and Camryn MacRae; dear brother of Robert Perron and wife Cheryl of Jacksonville, Fla., Ronald Perron and wife Donna of Bridgewater and the late Richard Perron. He also leaves behind his former wife, Joanne Perron of Whitman. Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123), Brockton, Tuesday 4-7 p.m. immediately followed by a funeral celebration, all to conclude at 8 p.m. Following cremation, burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made in Pits name to Community Autism Resources, 33 James Reynolds Rd., Swansea, MA 02777 or Old Colony Hospice, 1 Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA, 02368. Pit was a friend to many and always thinking of how he could help others. He impacted many lives but was too humble to take the credit. He was very kind to our family and he had a special place in his heart for his favorite nurse Lori.

May God bless his family and may he rest in peace.
