William Calnan Obituary

William J. Calnan, 88, died peacefully on Monday, May 4, 2015, at St. Josephs Manor. He was born in Brockton, Mass., April 17, 1927, the son of the late Raymond and Cecilia (Hamelin) Calnan. He attended local schools and graduated from Brockton High School. Following school, he enlisted and served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean conflict. Bill married Gloria M. Rice in Brockton, August 24, 1950. He worked as plumber for his entire life, in the family business BBC Plumbing & Heating with his business partner and son Brian, finishing his career with more than forty years of service and retiring in 1991. He and Gloria moved to Ocala, Fla., where they resided for the 22 years. In his spare time he loved working in his woodshop, playing cards, going to bingo, and ballroom dancing with his wife Gloria. His greatest love was the time he spent surrounded by his family and friends. Bill was predeceased by his wife, Gloria M. Calnan in 2000, a sister, Louise Pickett, and two brothers, John and Richard Calnan. He is survived by two daughters, Theresa and her husband Scott Ohlson of York, Maine, Denise and her husband John Ellis of Raynham, Mass.; one son, Brian Calnan of Halifax, Mass.; two sisters, Rae Marie Weaver of Dighton, Mass., Lorraine Clumb of Austin, Texas. He was blessed with eight grandchildren, Daniel Ohlson and his wife Lori, William Ohlson and his wife Sheridan, Thomas Ohlson, Andrew Ohlson, Jillian Calnan, Katelyn Calnan, Jeff Ellis, Beth Ellis; and one great-granddaughter, Shayla Ohlson; along with several nieces and nephews. At the families request all services will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland, Maine. Terry and Family, I am soo sorry to here about your dad passing.He was such a great guy. He is with your mom now. I loved working with your mom at the yank, and through her getting to know your dad and visiting them in Fla. They were both amazing people. God bless all of you during these very difficult times.
