William Edgerly Obituary

William R. Edgerly, died unexpectedly July 3, 2010, at Good Samaritan Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was 73. Born and raised in Dorchester, he was a son of the late Robert and Catherine (Ball) Edgerly. He was a graduate of Dorchester High School. Mr. Edgerly started his long career as a truck driver at the age of 20. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 653. He drove for Quinn Freightlines for seven years. He then joined Consolidated Freightways in 1970, where he enjoyed many years working before having to retire at an early age due to deafness. During his long career, he competed as a professional Roadeo driver at state and national levels. In addition to being the Massachusetts State Champion five times and competing at the national level, he also won numerous safe driver awards. He was a proud truck driver who enjoyed teaching others how to become a professional driver. From an early age, he was an avid stamp collector and history buff. He spent his free time going to stamp conventions throughout the country. He was a longtime member of the Philatelic Society. He loved going to Foxwoods and Las Vegas and watching football. He and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe. He was the beloved husband of Christa Edgerly; the loving father of five children, David Edgerly, Debra Fruzzetti, Sandra Sweetser, Charles Bryson and Andrea Bryson; devoted Papa to Brianna and Rebecca Bryson. He is also survived by five more grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Patricia (Edgerly) Cullen. Memorial services will be private.

billy and a bunch of us drivers would meet for lunch everyday in hyannis he was a great guy with always a good story. would see him at teamsters retiree breakfast also. will miss him. ricky(roadway)
