Barry Struski Obituary

Barry Struski, 80, of The Villages, FL, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, December 19th, 2020 at the Lake Port Health Center in Leesburg, FL. He was the son of the late Lillian (Hercek) and Chester S. Struski of Lackawanna, NY. Growing up Barry loved to bowl and golf when he was not working at Bethlehem Steel. He served in the US Army from 1963 and 1965 where he became an ace marksman and meat inspector. On a last minute flight from Boston to Buffalo Barry met his future wife Carole (Norwood) who he now leaves behind after 55 years of marriage. He worked in Retail Management for W.T. Grants and R.H. Stearns before moving on to the wholesale seafood industry with R.S. Hamilton. While living in Carver, MA, Barry co-opened the Candy Jar with his wife, eventually owning and operating five candy stores at once to the delight of the local children and families in Carver, Halifax, Pembroke, Lakeville, and Freetown. He finished his career at Blue Cross Blue Shield before retiring to The Villages in Florida for the last 15 years. In retirement Barry continued to golf and bowl. He was a member of two bowling leagues and on September 6, 2012, Barry finally bowled a perfect 300 game. Barry loved going out to breakfast and visited Bob Evans or Darrell's Diner every day where he met many great people and made lots of friends. Barry was extremely proud of his two sons and three grandchildren. He loved to attend their events and activities in person but when distance was too much of an obstacle he was still able to stay immersed in their lives by using modern technology. In addition to his wife Carole (Norwood), Barry is also survived by his son, Barry P. Struski and his wife Randi of Carver, MA, Matthew K. Struski and his wife Valerie of Pasadena, CA. He is survived by his three loving grandchildren, Scott Struski and Shana Struski of Carver, MA and Rain Struski of Pasadena, CA. He also leaves behind his younger brother Michael Struski of Blasdell, NY and was predeceased by his older brother Chet Struski. Whether you called him "Big Barry", "The Candy Man", "Barry the Lumper", "The Mayor" or dad, husband, brother, uncle, or friend, we know he will be missed by many. A celebration of life will be held in 2021. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Barry's memory to: liferollson.org or crohnscolitisfoundation.org.

Mr. Struski,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the U.S. Army during the Cold War. Millions of Americans slept safe at night because you and your fellow Servicemen stood ready to defend our Country. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
