Charles A. Bean DUXBURY Charles A. Bean, age 83, of Duxbury, passed away on Friday, March 20th after a brief illness. Charlie Bean was born in Somerville on November 9th, 1925, a son of the late Harold U. and Dorice C. (Campbell) Bean. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Shirley Fellows Bean. Loving father of Charlie Bean, Jr. of Dayton, FL, Christopher Bean and his wife Pamyla of Duxbury and Melinda Bean White and her husband Lloyd of Charlotte, NC. Also survived by 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Charlie first started playing the trumpet at three years old and began his professional trumpet career at the age of 14. He played in the Braintree High School Band, the U.S. Navy Band and became an acclaimed trumpet soloist at many popular venues such as the Totem Pole, The Ken Club and Blinstrubs. During the 1950s Charlie Bean entertained weekly on the Sue Bennett Show in the early days of Boston television. In 1958, Charlie left the Beacon Music Instrument Co. to start Charles Bean Music Company. The Music Store started out as a small business and grew into 5 locations in Quincy, Taunton, Worcester, Westerly, RI and St. Petersburg, FL. He serviced most of the school music departments in Southeastern Massachusetts and is accredited with having been one of the founders of SEMSBA. Charlie was active in the Quincy Symphony. Charlie and Shirley raised their family in Weymouth and Manomet Point in Plymouth and moved to Duxbury in 2006. They also wintered in St. Petersburg, FL for many years. Charlie was also known for his outstanding personality, quick sense of humor and kindness, and many can attest to his generosity. He will be deeply missed by those who loved him and knew him best, as well as by those who met him and just plain liked him. MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY GOES OUT TO THE FAMILY OF CHARLES BEAN. "CHARLIE" WAS MOST GENEROUS BOTH IN HIS WORK IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY AND AS ONE OF THE BEST FRIENDS I EVER HAD. HE HELPED ME BUILD MY BAND PROGRAM IN MANSFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS, AND WHEN I MOVED TO FLORIDA, CHARLIE WAS AGAIN AT MY SIDE, TO HELP ME DEVELOP A BAND PROGRAM IN PUNTA GORDA, FLORIDA. I WILL ALWAYS HOLD THE FONDEST MEMORIES AND RESPECT FOR HIS HUMOR, GENEROSITY AND KINDNESS.
I AM DEEPLY SADDENED BY THE LOSS OF SUCH A GREAT GENTLEMAN!

Charlie Bean was an inspiration to so many.
As a young lad Charlie Bean and Charlie Bean Music was the center point of any young musician wanting mentorship, musical instrument sales and support. His advise was always right on. For me Charlie started my roots to music and the diverse fields of the music business.
Thanks Charlie !
To his family my deepest sympathies

Dear Shirley,
I am sending you warm thoughts on news of Charlie's passing. You two were always a joy to know. I'm sure you have many wonderful, funny and happy memories to ponder after 60 years of marriage! What an awesome treasure you have both been to your family and those of us who were fortunate enough to know you, even for a while.
God bless you now and always. (and God bless Charlie for the gift of music he brought to the schools).

I was saddened to learn about Mr. Bean's death. As a young musician, he was always willing to help, by lending equiptment or fixing an instrument more often at no cost. He was kind and most generous and I have fond memories or hanging around Bean Music in Quincy. My deepest sympaty to the Bean family.

Dear Chris, and all of your extended family....Bill and I were so sorry to read of your father's passing. I told my mom (she is 91) and she said she had just been thinking of him.
My parents enjoyed yours, visited with them in Florida and of course my dad worked at your father's Quincy studio. They always spoke warmly of him and enjoyed them both.
Please extend our sympathy and my mother's to your mother. Sixty years is a long marriage...
Sincerely, Carol & Bill Dykstra
