Cornelius Bottomley Obituary

Cornelius Allen Haraden Bottomley Sr. (a.k.a. Neil) passed away with his family by his side on January 11, 2020, from complications of pancreatic cancer. He was born to John and Eva Bottomley in Quincy. He graduated from Dennis-Yarmouth High School in 1955 and attended Brown University, class of 1959. He went on to get a master's degree in Rehabilitation Administration from Northeastern University. Neil lived in Boston after college where he met his wife of 51 years, Dorothy Bottomley. He worked for N.Y. Life, then started the company New England Investment Properties, where he bought, sold and built nursing homes. His favorite project was building Windsor Nursing Home in 1972. He was a former Executive Director of Massachusetts Federation of Nursing Homes (Mass Senior Care Federation.) Neil started a Nursing Home Administrator continuing education company, providing some of the first national self-study CEU programs. Neil continued his entrepreneurial spirit establishing a Medicaid reimbursement consulting company followed by purchasing investment properties and managing them. He continued working until he was 80. Neil was an active participant in the community. He was a longstanding member of Plymouth Kiwanis Club for over 40 years. He was an active member and generous donor of the Church of the Pilgrimage. He was involved in numerous committees at the church for almost 45 years. He loved sailing, swimming and spending summers on the Cape with family. He enjoyed being a member of the Bass River Yacht Club. He spent many winters skiing and managing properties in VT. He had a strong love for his four legged friend, Daisy. He loved taking Daisy for walks every day. The dog was a wonderful companion. Neil was the son of the late John and Eva Bottomley and brother John Bottomley Jr. He was married to Dorothy Bottomley and lived in Plymouth for 40+ years. He leaves behind son, C. Allen Bottomley Jr. and his wife Jane Bottomley of Hanover; daughter, Allison Hughan and husband Peter Hughan of Norwell. He was a very proud grandfather of C.A. Haraden Bottomley III, McKenzie Bottomley, John Hughan and Emmeline Hughan. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 25, at 3 p.m. at the Church of Pilgrimage in Plymouth. Please join the family after the service to celebrate Neils life. So very sorry to hear of Neil´s passing. We met him when we moved back to Vermont and he provided us with a wonderful place to hang our hat until a permanent home became available. Always a pleasure to watch him walking Daisy. Our thoughts and prayers to his friends and family.
