David LeFort Obituary

David LeFort, 74, of Hanson, passed away peacefully at Saint Joseph's Manor on Monday, June 7, 2021, surrounded by family. David was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Elizabeth LeFort of Hanson, and his sister, Helaine LeFort of Wareham. He is survived by his loving wife, Leona (Pascucci) LeFort; his daughter, Amy Eason-LeFort and her wife Bridget of Scituate; his stepdaughter, Alexandra Masabny of Bangor, ME, and his former wife, Janis McGrory of Harwich. He also leaves behind extended family and friends. David was born in Boston, to the late Henry and Helen (Krausse) LeFort. He grew up in South Weymouth and graduated from South Weymouth High School. David was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a Lieutenant in the Vietnam War. David lived a very full life. After service in the U.S. Army, he became a tennis pro, teaching at clubs in Duxbury, Plymouth, and Hopedale. He always enjoyed playing tennis on his hand-built clay court at his home in Hanson and in tournaments all over New England. David's love of antique furniture and restoration led to a career as a cabinet maker. He started his own business, LeFort Fine Furniture, located in Hanover, in 1980. One of his first projects was building a post and beam home in Hanson after losing his antique cape in a house fire. He not only notched the beams himself, but had an old-fashioned rope house raising with the help of friends, relatives, neighbors, and community members. David was a celebrated artisan, creating 18th century furniture reproductions and was renowned across the country for his work. Former presidents, many notable actors, sports and business figures commissioned his works of art. David continued his passion in woodworking until he retired in 2012. David was also an avid fisherman and boater. He loved fly fishing the rivers of NH or upper state NY and saltwater fishing on his boat in Plymouth. He also loved music. He was a classically trained guitar player and loved playing. He sang in bands in his youth and in church as he got older. David's faith, kindness and sense of humor will never be forgotten by those who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Congregational Church of Hanson, 639 High Street, Hanson, MA 02341, his church for the last 40 years. A memorial service will be held for David on Tuesday, June 15, at 11 am at the First Congregational Church, 639 High Street, Hanson. Burial to follow at the Fern Hill Cemetery in Hanson.
