David Milliken Obituary

Dr. David G. Milliken, (60 years young) of Duxbury, died in a single occupant motor vehicle collision on the morning of April 18, 2016. David is survived by his loving newlywed wife, Paris Milliken of Duxbury, and his father George Milliken of Duxbury. David leaves behind two adoring children, Gregory (27) and Emily Milliken (21). Sharing in the grief are Davids siblings, Glenn Milliken Sr., Denise Rachel, Chalz Kirubi, Ananda Milliken, Jennifer Sanders, and Sean Milliken. David is remembered by all who knew and loved him as a kind, gentle, giving man who was full of love of life. Each day David enriched the lives of those around him with contagious curiosity and compassion. As a husband, David knew and expressed a rare love that most will never be so lucky to have enjoyed. As a father, David made his children feel eternally blessed and honored to have been raised by a man who could simultaneously be their best friend and role model with seemingly effortless grace. As a family member, David was someone whom people looked forward to sharing exciting stories of life with. As a friend David was thoughtful and interesting to talk to, as well as someone you could always count on. As an eye doctor, David was so much more than a health care provider. Visiting Dr. Milliken in his legacy office, Milliken Eye Care was a family experience that left patients knowing they were cared for on a level not expected of a mere professional. David loved to say that patients left his office with better insight and eyesight. Davids passion for the beauty of nature was expressed by the works of art he created from stone, wood, and the likes at his home and in his office. In his spare time David was an avid outdoors-man who found peace in nature. David's passion for life and exploration will be carried on through all of the lucky people he touched. Two roads diverged in a wood, and I I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. Robert Frost. A memorial Service will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St. (Rte.106) in Kingston on Saturday, April 30, at 11 a.m.

So sad to hear of David's passing. We went to high school together and always had a laugh riding the bus to school. Years later, I ended up with him in an eye exam, and we had more laughs remembering old friends and old times. He was always a sweet and interesting guy, even in high school. I am so sorry for your loss, and the loss to the world.

To the family of Dr. Milliken,
We were saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Dr. Milliken. He had been our family's eye doctor since his years with Dr. Price, and we continued seeing him when he started his own practice. He was always willing to explain the eye to my children, made vision exams fun for them, and never spoke down to them, even when they were very young. He never rushed an appointment, and you could see the joy he felt being surrounded by work he found fascinating. We will sincerely miss him, and wish to offer our condolences to his family and staff.

I saw Dr. Milliken for my yearly contact lens check for the past 25 years - since I was in high school. I kept returning to Scituate to see him even long after I moved close to Boston, because of his genuine caring. He always asked about my work, and we talked about gardening. It was a terrible shock to learn he is gone from this world. My condolences to the family during this difficult time.

My wife, daughter, and I were all patients of Dr.Milliken. We could not have received any better care for our eyes.He gave me excellent follow-up care after having both cataracts removed last year. I was completely shocked and saddened when the office told me today. His "chairside" manner was so genuine and caring. What an honor to have known such a human being.

To the family and staff at Dr. Milliken's office,
We were extremely shocked and sadden to hear about what had happened...Dr. Milliken was truly a wonderful doctor who had such a kind and caring personality...we remember one time in particular when my husband came in to pick up our son's contact lenses and Dr. Milliken took the time to talk to him about a problem he had been having with his eyes...my husband did not have an appointment, yet Dr. Milliken took a good 20 to 25 minutes to just sit and explain things to my husband...without charge! That was just the kind of doctor he was...He will be sorely missed...

Sincerely & With our Deepest Sympathy

It is with great sadness that Fred and I express our condolences to Davids family. As a patient, we experienced so much more than eye care. He truly cared about us.
This past Easter Sunday, he did not even hesitate to give up his Sunday to meet Fred at his office with an eye issue.
He will be so missed as a blessed spirit on this earth.

As a long-tme patient of Dr. Milliken's, I was shocked and saddened by his passing. David agreed to meet my son one Sunday at his office to diagnose an eye injury - he went above and beyond to help him, and I was so grateful. It's not very often that a medical professional encourages his patients to call him at any time, and David was truly unique in that way. My condolences to his family and friends...he will be greatly missed.

My family was so saddened to hear of the loss of Dave. My husband and I enjoyed going to have our eyes examined by him over the years, not only to get a great eye exam but also to talk and catch up with Dr. Milliken. We are heart broken about his loss, but we know we are better people for having to have known him.
