Edward Gibbons Obituary

Edward R. Gibbons Hull Edward R. Gibbons, age 79, a Hull resident since 1970, died on Saturday, Nov. 3rd at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. Mr. Gibbons was born in Revere and was raised and educated in Roxbury and South Boston, graduating from South Boston High School in 1946. He then was a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force for over 21 years serving in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Following his distinguished war service, he worked for the City of Boston developing training programs for inner city youth retiring in the mid 1980's. He has the distinction of being the first in the country to be a pioneer in stem cell research at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton. Mr. Gibbons was a longtime member of the 'Mosquito Association' which was the name of his Korean War Air Force Unit. Mr. Gibbons is survived by his wife, Maureen C. (MacFarlane) Gibbons of Hull; 5 sons, Robert F. of Middleboro, Michael J. of Maryland, Harold V., Dennis K. and Jeffrey A. all of Hull; 2 daughters, Dawn M. Campbell of Hull and Laurie A. White of Weymouth, 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be conducted on Wednesday, Nov. 7th at 10 a.m. at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham. Friends may visit at the Downing Chapel on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory would be preferred to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-4688. The interment will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
