Joan Morton Obituary

Joan O. Morton, 97, passed away peacefully in her sleep Nov. 18. Joan was born in upstate New York, one of 11 children. She moved to Boston as a teenager where she met her husband Arthur. Joan worked for most of her life, as a model, a real estate agent, and an insurance agent. She was runner up in the Miss Massachusetts competition on 1936. She was the type of woman who never ceased to amaze. Her son Bob was not unaccustomed to coming home and finding her sitting on the engine of her Mustang Mach 1, changing the spark plugs or playing cards with his friends. An avid sportswoman, Joan loved her time outdoors. She was a skier, ice skater, golfer, and even played softball in her younger days. Most of all she loved to walk, logging miles most every day well into her 90s. Survivors include her son, Bob and his wife Jaye, and their sons, Kyle and Sean Morton of Rye, N.H.; and a granddaughter, Michelle Wilhide of Waynesboro, Pa. Joan was predeceased by her daughter, Barbara and her husband Arthur. There will be a private service for the family. Donations in her memory may be made to The Jimmy Fund at www.jimmyfund.org or by check payable to The Jimmy Fund mailed to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.

Joan O. Morton was my Grandmother whom I look to as a Mother, because my Mother Barbara died soon after I was born. I love her with a passion that is undescriable. Even though our lives were seperated by hundreds of miles my love for her grew with each passing year. She was a spit fire of a woman and we didn't always see eye to eye. But we made some of the best lifetime memories I have together. I will forever miss you Joan. I love you
