Mary J. Cahill

Mary J. Maura Cahill (Scanlan) age 92 of Quincy, formerly of Cork City, Ireland and Milton passed away February 27, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Athlone, West Meath County, Ireland, she was raised in Cork and came to the United States in 1954. She originally lived in Cambridge, before living in Dorchester and Milton for many years. She was a devoted wife and mother to her 9 children. A devoted Catholic, Mary was an active Member of St. Gregory Parish in Dorchester and a member of the St. Peters Mothers Club and Ladies Sodality in Dorchester. She previously worked for the Paulist Center in Boston for many years. Beloved wife of the late John. Devoted mother of James J. Cahill and his wife Mary of Hingham, Shaun P. Cahill and his wife Lisa of Sandwich, Mary B. Judge and her husband James of Boston, Donal G. Cahill and his wife Claire of Cohasset, Gerard M. Cahill and his wife Laurie of Sandwich, Margaret McCue and her husband Phillip of Hingham, Kathleen A. Denis and her husband Daniel of Hanover, Patrick J. Cahill and his wife Bridget of Hanover and the late Noreen Kelley. Mother-in-law of Paul Kelly of Hanover. Sister of Paschal Scanlan of England, Rev. Liam V. Scanlan of Ireland, and the late Sean, Seamus, Eamon, Henry and Tomas Scanlan. Also survived by 25 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass at St. Gregorys Church, Dorchester, Saturday morning at 9. Visiting hours at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton, Friday, 3 to 8 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.
