Owen J. Eaton

Owen J. Eaton, 82, a lifelong Quincy resident and longtime Water Superintendent for the city, died Aug. 4, 2012, at John Adams Healthcare Center in Quincy, following a period of declining health. He was the devoted husband of 30 years to the late Dorothy R. (Stevens), who died in 1991. Born and raised in Quincy, he was a graduate of North Quincy High School. He joined the U.S. Army and served his country honorably during the war in Korea, and was discharged with the rank of corporal. He remained active in veterans causes, and was a member of the Cyril P. Morrisette Post 294 of the American Legion, the AmVets Post 7, and VFW Bryant Post 513. In addition, Owen was a charter member and the founding president of the Ward 2 Civic Association, Quincy Point, and was a communicant of St. Josephs Parish. Mr. Eaton worked for the city of Quincy as its Water Superintendent for more than 28 years, retiring in 1982. In retirement, he continued working in the industry as a special consultant and Constriction Resident Inspector to Camp, Dresser & McKee, Inc., of Cambridge. He was the loving uncle of Gail Folan and her husband Thomas of Foxboro, Dorothy Mavs and her husband Kevin of Winthrop, and Donna Whitcomb of Weymouth. He was the brother of the late William J. Eaton, John L. Eaton, Margaret Mabel and Mary Dalton. He is also survived by a large extended family and many close friends. His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held Thursday, Aug. 9, at 10 a.m. at the Hamel, Wickens & Troupe Funeral Home, 26 Adams St., Quincy Center. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Blue Hill Cemetery, West Street, Braintree.
