William F. Hyslop Jr.

William F. Hyslop Sr., 88, of Dandridge, Tenn., formerly of Galesburg and Quincy, died at 5:52 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 2, 2013) in his home.

He was born June 1, 1925, in Galesburg to Dr. Clayton Sr. and Edna Margaret Forsyth Hyslop. He married Josephine Chelikas on Dec. 14, 1957, in Quincy. She survives.

William was an airline customer service manager for 39 years for Ozark Airlines and the last three years for TWA. From 1966-1976, while with Ozark, he served as the scheduled airline ticket office ("SATO") manager at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Ill., with heavy military air travel during the Vietnam War. He retired in 1989.

He attended Galesburg High School for two years and graduated from Notre Dame High School, Quincy, in 1943. He then served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946 with World War II service. He later graduated from Quincy College with a bachelor's degree in 1950.

William was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church in Rantoul and Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Jefferson City, Tenn. He was a former member of Rotary International in Rantoul and Waterloo, Iowa.

Also surviving are three sons, William F. "Bill" (and Cathy) Hyslop Jr. of Palatine, Nicholas (and Elaine) Hyslop of Southlake, Texas and Tod (and Kimberly) Hyslop of Talbott, Tenn.; a daughter, Valerie (and Scott) Buennemeyer of Louisville, Colo.; a sister, Roseann Szidon of Fort Collins, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Taylor, Andrew, Sarah, Hannah, Joseph and Matthew; and five nieces and four nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Heidi Ann; a brother, Clayton Hyslop Jr.; and a sister, Gwen McKay.

SERVICES: 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Deacon Michael Crummer will conduct. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Galesburg, with military rites by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post No. 285.

VISITATION: One hour prior to the service in the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
