Robert D. Hester

Robert D. Hester, 86, of East Falmouth, formerly of Quincy, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, at home after a brief illness. He was the husband of Kathleen (Flaherty) Hester. Born in Roslindale, he lived in Quincy for 30 years until he retired in 1989, and later moved to Falmouth in 1994. After high school, Bob entered and served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1954. He worked for the New England Telephone Company. He was a communicant of Christ the King Church and volunteered for St. Vincent DePaul Society. Bob was an avid golfer and enjoyed sports. In addition to his wife of 54 years, Bob is survived by five children, Robert Hester and his wife Mimi of Quincy, Eileen Johnston and her husband Douglas of Weymouth, Tricia Donovan and her husband Jack, Timothy Hester and his wife Kate and Liz Haugh and her husband John, all of Braintree. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a sister, Gail Linehan of Canton. He was predeceased by his brother, Edmund Hester. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, Feb. 9, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 74 Algonquin Ave. (at Rte. 151), Mashpee. A funeral Mass will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 3 Jobs Fishing Rd., Mashpee. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, at 11:30.
