Bill taught our son Matthew to skate with Josh in learn-to-skate and we were fortunate to have Josh and Bill on the ice with us last year as well. It was a shock to me when Jerry told me the news last Sunday. I didn't know Billy as well as many of you did but everytime I was around him, he always made me feel welcome, usually by making me laugh. We lost a hero on Sunday. A friend, a co-worker. Someone who fought fires and gave aid and compassion to those that needed it. Everyone who met him is a better person for it. Harvey, Pat and the entire Smith family express our love for the entire Sears family. We can only imagine the grief you feel because of Billy being called to heaven so soon. A son, a brother, a father and a respected member of the fire department and a thoughtful community participant.
Billy’s smile always brought heart felt warmth to all those that witnessed it and who called Bill a friend.
Bill was one of those rare personalities you meet and you feel like you have known them forever. We did.
When the greatest are called to heaven in there prime it is heart wrenching, but it does make those left behind feel they are in safe hands because Billy is spreading his benevolence to all.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to all of Bill's family members. To quote an old cliche "God broke the mold when he made him!", speaks volumes about Bill. He was a very warm, caring and unique individual. The place he had in our hearts will be void now, but the memories of all the good times will live forever. He had a unique way of making me feel special and Gerry will always remember great times at the lake, building the addition and golf outings especially the trip to Maine. When he shot his first "99" he was glad Bill was there to share it with him. We are especially thankful for him taking Jr under his wing and being there for him when he needed a "BIG BROTHER" We will miss him dearly.
