She was a model of all things one would wish to be. She and I worked on the Mental Health Association Board together. I did not realize she had died until now, 6 years later. Lisa, I hope you are doing well. Are you still at Upstate?

To the family, I was very sad to hear of Mrs. Thornton's death. I was a student of both Mr. & Mrs. Thornton and I have fond memories of growing up under their care at Bethlehem Center. I remember kindergarten years and learning to sew from Mrs Thornton. Both of your parents were truly wonderful people. Gain strength from your memories and time shared.

Lisa,
I wish to convey my heartfelt sympathy to you and your family on the passing of your mother. She was such a classy lady and had a heart full of compassion for others. I remember her having me in her home for lunch several years ago to get to know me a little better in preparation for introducing me at Women's Day. I know you will miss her but your mom and your dad really left a legacy for you and others to follow for many years to come. Know that you are surrounded by many people who adore you and the life that your mother lived. Mary L. Thomas, The Spartanburg County Foundation

I was a child in the early 60's when the Thornton Family was at Bethlehem Center and Highland Community. What fun we had learning basic life skills from Mrs. Thornton and I will always remember her for the good times we had. My heart is with your Family at this time.

Dearest Lisa and Monica, In the words of the International President for the Association of Ministers' Wives and Ministers' Widows, "It takes a Pastor's Wife to teach a Pastor's Wife how to be a Pastor's Wife." Mrs. Thornton was a great role model and mentor. She was truly a lady who shared much love and wisdom. Please find comfort in our prayers and knowing that we too, will miss her.

Lisa and Monica,
Our hearts are very heavy and our prayers are with you and your family. I remember spending many an afternoon after Monica and I completed cheerleading practice at your house and your mom always had a warm heart, an open kitchen and kindness to me. The many Saturdays spent at choir rehearsal and Christmas and Easter pageants are some of my fondest memories. I remember that the Means girls, me and you two being as thick as thieves at times and your mom's smiling through our antics at choir rehearsal and vacation bible school. I remember singing God Has Smiled on Me and hearing her singing right along with us. Well now, God is Smiling on her and is wrapping her in His love and light. I love you both and again my condolences. We have all lost a second mom.

To the family, I was very sad to read about the death of Ms. Thornton. She would come running when we neded a tour guide. She would change her schedule so she would personally witness the smiles upon the children faces. She Simply enjoyed meeting and greeting people and they enjoyed meeting her. We will miss her at the library and I Know the community will not only miss her but miss her experience and guidance. Evelyn Parks, Volunteer/Homebound Coordinator
