Donna Tracy Obituary

Donna Pond Tracy
SPARTANBURG, SC-- Donna Margaret Pond Tracy, 60, died at her home, on Monday night, May 9, 2016. Born on December 1, 1955 in Suffolk, VA, she was the wife of Dr. Kevin P. Tracy and daughter of Margaret Pinner Pond-Smith of Spartanburg and the late Samuel B. Pond, Jr.
Donna was a graduate of West Springfield (VA) High School and Richmond (VA) Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She began her nursing career in the Adolescent and Neonatal Units at the Medical College of Virginia in August, 1977; the same year she married her high school sweetheart, Dr. Tracy. Upon his completion of Medical training at MCV and his entry into the US Army, she gave up nursing for another caring profession - motherhood! After the births of their three children, she re-entered nursing at Kaiser Permanente in Tacoma, WA.
Returning to civilian life in Spartanburg, she worked in the cancer and later the subacute units at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. She then became the assistant director of nursing at Magnolia Manor, and later assumed the same position at Mountainview Nursing Home.
Some of Donna's other jobs in the nursing field included working with WRENS of Woodruff; Visiting Nurses Spartanburg County's DHEC-sponsored program; Family Care Council teaching prenatal care and parenthood classes to students in the County High Schools; and she taught Certified Nursing Assistants classes at Spartanburg Tech.
Donna was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother as well as a dedicated and faithful worker at the Westminster Presbyterian Church where she served as the former chairman of the Aftercare Committee, a children's Sunday school teacher, a devoted Circle member; and all around willing participant showing her devoted love for the Lord and His work. A wonderful cook, she was always happy to provide food for any occasion.
In addition she was a member of Modern Literature Book Club, PEO Chapter D; and the Battle of Cowpens Chapter, DAR. For a number of years she was a driver for Mobile Meals.

May 16, 2016

Dr. Tracy, I was so saddened to hear today about the recent loss of your wife. May our Lord Jesus bless you and all your family as we all pray for strength and peace for you. I know you told us a few weeks ago how she was very sick. Remember she has no pain anymore and is at rest in the beautiful place of heaven. One hymn says, "Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal." Our prayers, Cathy and Larry Webber

Our Family was very close to Donna and her Family when we all lived in Springfield VA. As we all went down our separate roads of life we departed from that closer relationship. I will remember the many hours Donna and I spent talking about the best two subjects in the world, our shared grandchildren Mia and Aiden Bell. They were the first grandchildren for both of us and I can truly say we both knew God had sent us angels to Earth. We laughed at their antics of baby and toddler years. Mia as the "bossy big sister" by less than two years and Aiden as the compliant little brother until he realized that he had a voice too and fingers to pinch with. He learned well from that big sister. We were overjoyed when they finally returned to the Upstate via Air Force base assignments in Spokane,WA and Crestview,FL. We marveled at their preschool years at Mauldin Methodist Preschool and Kindergarten. I teach there and could see how their peers and their teachers loved them. I got comments on them such as,those are the most well behaved children. They still are. I honestly do not remember a time when Mia was angry with me but I did make Aiden mad one time. He was three and I was caring for them at their house. It was the Christmas season. I had a small glass nativity set I thought they might enjoy. I told Aiden it was not a toy because if it broke he could get cut. Mama would help them find a safe spot to place it. I reminded him to keep it on the carpet.Well as little excited boys are prone to do he just had to bring it into the kitchen to talk about something. Poor Joseph goes crashing onto the tile floor breaking into many sharp shards. As I wondered silently that has a mom,Nana and preschool teacher I should have had more sense than to give it to them. Being that Aiden was barefoot I carried him back to sit safely while I cleaned up the dangerous mess.I told him to stay in the chair until I said it was safe to get up. As I was sweeping I turn around and there stands Aiden. Out of fear of him getting cut I said in a stern voice,"I TOLD you to stay put. Maybe because I had never had to use that tone with him or Mia he got so mad and cried. I tried to make amends but he was having none of that. The remainder of the day he would not speak to me. Knowing of his infamous love of all things sweet the next day I make peace with a box of Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Pies. All was right in his three year old world. I could go on and on just as Donna and I did when we were together . On the last occasion we had time to talk at length it happened to be a perfect September morning as she and I attended grandparents' day at the kids' school.Of course we talked about Mia and Aiden but Donna always asked about my other grandchildren. Kevin,Peggy,Sarah,Brian,Anna,Mia,Aiden and Brian's baby (sorry her name has slipped my mind) Donna Pond Tracy loved all of you so much and I just bet she is in Heaven saying,"Let me tell you about Mia and Aiden".Much love and prayers,Cindy Bell.
