Harold Mackey Obituary

Harold Anthony "Mick" Mackey

Harold Anthony "Mick" Mackey had the gift of a generous heart that he opened fully to those around him. That big heart gave out and beat its last on the evening of June 10, 2021 in Charleston, South Carolina. Our world has lost some of its luster without him in it.

Harold was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts, May 15, 1952. He lived a block from the Atlantic on the Isle of Palms and spent the final four-plus decades of his life deeply dedicated to his family. He made a lifetime commitment of partnership and love when he married his wife, Nancy Burnett Mackey, in 1982. In 1993, they were graced by the birth of their son, Alexander Dylan "Alex" Mackey. Nancy and Alex survive him in Isle of Palms and Charleston, respectively, as does a sister, Susan Mackey Hogue, and a brother, Richard J. Mackey, both of Columbia. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Janet McLeskey and her husband Jerry McLeskey, and their children, James "Jim" and Jason (Michelle) all of Spartanburg, SC; as well as Jason and Michelle's children, Jackson and Matthew. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold Merritt Mackey and Leslie Frances Lausi Mackey, and a sister, Judith Ann Francis. Harold also leaves Romeo, his much-loved Maine Coon Cat.

Harold will be remembered by friends and loved ones with deep affection and joy at a party and celebration of life at The Dock, Bowens Island Restaurant, off Folly Road (Highway 171) on June 28, 2021, 6:00pm to 9:00pm. All are welcome to enjoy food, drink, music, swapping stories and a nice sunset in a casual and relaxed atmosphere.

A funeral mass for Harold will be celebrated at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church on Sullivan's Island, SC, on June 29, 2021 at 11:00am. All are welcome.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Harold's honor may be made to the Hollings Cancer Center at MUSC, the American Heart Association, or a charity of your choice that fights heart disease or cancer. The family is being assisted by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel. Further information about arrangements and directions may be found at www.jhenrystuhr.com.

I knew and worked with Harold at SCETV when I was there in the 70s. He had a wry sense of humor and a 'take' on life that I found irresistable. I always enjoyed my time with him. I actually did not know he married Nancy Burnett, who I also knew from my time there, and I am so happy that they found each other and spent their lives together. To all of his family, I wish you peace and comfort during this difficult time. Please know that I am thinking about your family and sending love and prayers.

Harold was my "go to guy" for all things IS and we quickly became familiar with each others phone numbers as I tend to be quite needy when it comes to technology. This he picked up on right away but a quick text his way was always responded to with a good morning and a smiley face. He was there to help me even when I would wake him up at 6:45 in the morning with a call or text. Thank you, Harold, for your patience and everything you've done for me. You will be missed. - KB

I've worked with Harold for the past nine years and more closely in the past three or four. He could always be counted on to deliver, whether it was work or a bit of dry humor. Harold was a pleasure to be around and he will be missed. condolences to friends and family.

Seeing the news of Harold´s passing hit me really hard. I first met Harold when we both worked at ETV in the early 70´s. We remained friends through the years especially when we lived just down Waterway Blvd from you on IOP. Harold was a wonderful man with a big heart and a great smile. He will be missed
My condolences to you and all of Harold´s loved ones

I am so sorry about this devastating sad news. I worked with Harold at MUSC from 1999-2006. I was Mick´s wing man on supporting the DDC.
I have many good memories of working with Mick. Prayers to Mick and your family.
We hit it off right out of the gate when I came aboard. We both were from Gloucester, MA
so, we had lots to talk about. Super nice guy who will be missed.

Nancy,

I am so sorry to hear of Mick's passing. I was your neighbor at Hibben Ferry many years ago and visited both of you not long after you moved to Isle of Palms. I remember the conversations Mick and I would have walking home from the gym. Although we all moved away from there I met with him some years later at a business he had in the north area and it was just as we had seen each other yesterday. I'm sure he will be missed.

Nancy, I am heartbroken to hear about Harold. I have such great memories of our time together at ETV. He was and still is one of the best friends I had there. I hope the good Lord continues to bless you and Alex during these difficult times.
Peace be with you,
Keith
