Herbert Moore Obituary

ROCK HILL, SC-- Mr. Herbert Bays Moore, Sr., 85, of 520 Meadowbrook Lane, died on August 31, 2006 at home.Born in Rock Hill, Bays Moore was the son of the late Theodore Albertus and Lucy Bays Moore. He was a Factory Representative for the Columbus McKinnen Corporation for a period of 25 years and represented Southern Electric Service Company of Charlotte, NC for many years. He graduated from Rock Hill High School and the University of South Carolina, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He entered the US Army in 1943, serving at the Camp Croft Training Center as an instructor, graduated from the Infantry School at Fort Benning, GA, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. He shipped to the European Theater in 1945 and served under General George Patton. He remained in the Army Reserve and retired as a Lt. Colonel. Mr. Moore was a member of the America Legion Post of Rock Hill and a Charter Member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as Sunday School Teacher and Ruling Elder. Bays Moore was an avid golfer and a lover of Big Band Music and enjoyed both through out his life.He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Jane Everett Moore; a son, Herbert Bays Moore, Jr. of Spartanburg, SC; two daughters, Barbara Everett Tremblay of Clemmons, NC and Laura Mason Ballenger of Florence, NC; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.The graveside service was held at 2:15 PM, Saturday, September 2, 2006 at Laurelwood Cemetery with a service of worship that followed at Westminster Presbyterian Chruch at 3:00 PM with Dr. Shelton P. Sanford, III and Rev. Bill McCutchen who officiated.The family received friends at Westminster Church following the service.Memorials may be sent to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1300 India Hook Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.Greene Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel was in charge.Paid Funeral Notice
