Larry White Obituary
Born February 10, 1941 in Saluda, SC, Larry was the son of the late Luke Smith White, III and Geraldine Butler White. He was a graduate of Clemson College, class of 1963, and The Medical University of South Carolina, class of 1967. Larry completed a one year internship and four year residency in OBGYN at MUSC. He served in the US Army Medical Corps in Fort Jackson before relocating to Spartanburg in 1975. Dr. White was Chief of Staff at Mary Black Hospital, Chief of Staff of the OBGYN department, a board member of Mary Black Hospital, and selected in 2014 at Physician of the Year for Spartanburg County. He was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by his sons, Luke Smith White, IV, and his wife, Kathryn, of Greenwood, SC and Thomas Scott White and his wife, Ivy, of Greer, SC; his grandchildren, Caleb, Zach, David, and Addie; and three sisters, Sandra W. Ray of Greenville, SC, Cindy W. Garrison of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Marsha W. Goff of Salem, SC.
A memorial service will be held Friday, February 7th, 1:00PM at St. John's Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Mike Shackelford.
The family will receive friends following the service in the Parish Life Center.
A private inurnment will be held in the church columbarium.
In remembrance of Dr. White, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 415 S. Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.

We are deeply sorry to learn of Dr. White's passing. He delivered both of our children which entitled him to a special place in our hearts. He was a great doctor who truly cared about his patients. Praying for comfort and peace for his family and friends.

When I had my first child, Dr. White performed my unplanned c-section. On a follow-up visit, one of the nurses told me I had the best Dr. to do the surgery. Now that baby is a Doctor of Pharmacy. So sorry for your loss. I know he will be missed by all the family.

I was so shocked when I heard of the passing of Dr. White.I was a patient of his for several years.He delivered my daughter in 1978 and then delivered her daughter in 2005.Dr.White was a great OB/GYN and a very caring Dr.My condolences and prayers for his family.

I have no words to adequately express my sadness. Doc was such a caring and tender addition to our family. I remember being so grateful that Ivy had another Mom and Dad who would welcome her into their family with grace and open arms. Please know that she is there for you to call on when the boys just don't get it ! Doc was so very important to her, as are you. Please take care of yourself and let others serve you for awhile..

I have so much respect and admiration for Dr. White. He was a great Doctor, Teacher, Leader and a true gentleman. I Had the good fortune of being one of the 5 original employees at the beginning of Carolina Ob/GYN. We were always treated as family. Dr. White, quietly without any fanfare, did so much for so many. His unwavering support and generosity shown to me while I attended ultrasound school
changed my life, as well as my family.
My love and prayers are with his wonderful wife, Myrna, his sons and the entire family.

So sorry to hear about Dr. White. He had been my gynecologist for 30 years. He delivered 2 of my grandsons. He was also a friend of me, my husband and my mother was a friend of Myrna. My heart is breaking hearing that Dr. W has passed. My prayers for family and friends. I worked for this great man for 18 years at Carolina OB-GYN. He was the best employer, doctor, and friend that I've ever had the privilege to work with. So many years of memories are going through my mind right now. He will live on in my memory.

Dr. White was my OB/GYN for 30 years until I moved from Spartanburg. He was the BEST doctor who listened to his patients. Thank you for your service to the women of Spartanburg. God bless your family and bring peace to them during this difficult time. I am sure he will be missed by all.

Dr. White was my gynecologist from 1977 until he retired. I held him in very high regard and he was an excellent physician. I am sorry he is no longer with us. He treated you as a human being and not as just a patient.

I worked with Dr White for about 10 years on the FBC at Mary Black Hospital. He was a great surgeon and patient advocate . He was the back bone to our department for many years. We are so sorry for the loss of Mr. Larry. We always enjoyed seeing him and Mrs. Myrna working in the yard. The kids always ran to the window when they heard the tractor and loved watching all the sticks get dumped on the road. He was a great man and a hard worker! We will miss seeing him and know he will be missed greatly by his family. Deepest sympathy to the family. He loved you all very much and was very proud of all of his kids and grandkids! I am shocked to see Dr White is no longer with us--he was one of the greats. He is a physician that (really) all doctors would be wise to emulate. The world is a little less bright now that his light is gone.
