Matthew Kahn Obituary

Matthew Ibson Kahn

MOORE, SC-- Matthew Ibson Kahn, beloved father and honored husband, died on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, at the age of 44.
Matthew was born on July 10, 1965, in Des Moines, IA. He grew up in Clear Lake, IA. He attended the University of Northern Iowa before he joined the Army in 1985. He served his country with pride. One of his favorite duties was working with the law enforcement in California clearing marijuana fields.
He moved to Ames, IA in May of 1993 where he began attending DMACC College and transferred to Iowa State University in 1994 as a computer science major. He met his wife in May of 1994 and later married October 18, 1996.
His work with Bridgestone/Firestone took his family from Des Moines, IA to Nashville, TN. After 3 years in Tennessee, Matthew began a new job with the SealedAir Corporation and was transferred to the Duncan, SC Cryovac office.
Matthew was a devoted husband and father. He loved being the coach for his son's soccer team with AYSO. This past year Matt was on the board with Region 123 for AYSO and a certified referee. He cherished that common bond for the love of soccer that he shared with both his son and youngest daughter. Saturday mornings were often filled with a trip to the donut shop or around the pond fishing.
Matthew is survived by his wife of 13 years, Melinda Kay Kahn; three children, Jonathan Daniel, Kathryn Marie, and LeighAnn Rae Kahn, all of Moore, SC. He is also survived by his parents M.O. "Bud" and Roberta "Bobbie" Kahn; one brother and three sisters, Gary Kahn, Laurie Kahn, Cindy Grogger, and Cecelia "CeCe" Ibson.
Visitation will be held at Dunbar Funeral Home from 6:00 - 8:00 PM today, October 30, 2009.
A memorial service will take place at Bethlehem Baptist Church located at 725 Old Georgia Road, Moore, SC 29369 on Saturday, October 31, 2009, at 11:00 AM. Following the service the family will gather in the family life center. A private family burial will be held at the M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, SC.
In memory of Matthew, memorial contributions may be made to the Home School Foundation, PO Box 1152, Purcellville, VA 20134-1152.

Melinda, I'm so sorry for your sudden loss. I wish that you had let me know. I found out from Charlotte and had not heard untill today Sunday. If there is anything we can do, let us know. We will be making a contribution to the Home School Foundation. Is there anything that the neighborhood can do as a whole?? Anything that Matt did around the house that you can't do?? Our thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family.

Mindy,

May you find courage and strength in knowing how much we care. May God's peace be with you and your family during this time of sorrow. Earth has no sorrow that heaven can not heal.
You are an amazingly strong christian, what you must endure does not compare to the reward you will gain. God knew He could trust you. It was a honor to have met Matt and it is a blessing to know you. Hold up the light, you gonna make it, by HIS grace.

Family of Matt Kahn,

Please accept our condolences... we are very sorry for your tragic loss!
This is a significant loss for you as his family, our community and his many friends.
Over the last year I have had a chance to get to know Matt (and Jonathan) with AYSO and soccer.
Matt was great guy and a fun guy, but always a person that could be counted on to do his part plus. He regularly volunteered to be a coach, referee and a responsible Board member (not a "slacker"). More importantly, Matt served as a role model to develop young people within the AYSO organization and served as an adult example for the rest of us.
Those of us who knew Matt were very blessed to have been touched by kindness, consideration, care and his solid values.
Matt's contribution will be truly be missed...by you as a family, this community and his friends.
May he rest in peace.
