Robert Slone Obituary

Robert Lee Slone, Jr.

SPARTANBURG, SC-- Robert Lee Slone, Jr., age 86, died Friday morning, June 26, 2009 at Regional Hospice Home.
Born in Prestonsburg, KY, February 26, 1923, Mr. Slone was a son of the late Robert L. and Grace Haywood Slone, Sr. He was a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Wisconsin and was manager of Plant Engineering for American Motors Corp. Mr. Slone served in the United States Army serving in World War II. He was stationed in North Africa and Italy. Mr. Slone was a life member of Free and Accepted Masons and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Walnut Grove United Methodist Church.
Mr. Slone was predeceased in death by his wife of 62 years, Alice Vivian (Howard) Slone; a sister, Virginia Dare Slone; a brother, William Slone; and his beloved dog, Libby.
He is survived by three daughters, Linda Lamb and her husband, John of Pinehurst, NC, Brenda Hooker and her husband, Mike of Moore, SC, and Diana Homburg and her husband, Mike of Union Grove, WI; a brother, Bernard Slone of Mishawaka, IN; five grandchildren, John E. Lamb, Jr. (J.J.) of SC, Matthew S. Lamb of NC, Amanda (Joel) Price of Spartanburg, SC, Tom (Michelle) Hribar of Franksville, WI, and Virginia Dare (Chuck) Gehrand of Union Grove, WI; and eight great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers are John Lamb, Mike Hooker, Mike Homburg, J.J. Lamb, Tom Hribar and Joel Price.
A visitation will be held Sunday, June 28, 2009 from 4:00-6:00 PM at Dunbar Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 29, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Walnut Grove United Methodist Church conducted by Reverend Chris Snellgrove. Burial will immediately follow in Walnut Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
In Memory of Mr. Slone, memorial contributions may be made to Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, 1335 Walnut Grove Road, Roebuck, SC 29376.

When I think of Uncle Bob I remember an even tempered, good humored person. He was always kind to me and made me feel welcome and safe in his home.
