Mary Yvonne Travis Patterson, 79

Mary Yvonne Travis Patterson, age 79, passed away peacefully after a short illness in
Port Charlotte, Fla., on Friday, Oct. 31, 2025.
She was born on Oct. 9, 1946, in Briar Ridge, Spencer County, Ky. In 1955,
the family moved to a farm in Elk Creek.
Yvonne loved growing up on a large farm and worked very hard, with a dairy, fishing pay
lakes, picking strawberries and raising tobacco.
She began working in the grocery store business, later buying the old Elk Creek
Grocery, then building a new Elk Creek Grocery & Restaurant, which she ran for 45 years.
Known for her passion for cooking, most notably her mile-high meringue pies, Yvonne
was full of life, always with a smile, laughing and telling stories. She loved the Lord and her
generous spirit and hospitality is a true reflection of the life she lived. She will be dearly missed.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Patrick Patterson; her sister, Bonnie
Ochs; and her parents, Hubert and Clara Mae (Whitaker) Travis Armstrong. Left to cherish the
memories of Yvonne are her beloved sons, Carey Allen of Port Charlotte and Stephen Troy
Shouse (Angie) of Taylorsville; granddaughter, Elizabeth Yvonne Shouse of Shelbyville; brothers,
David, Jimmy and Wayne (Rolla) Travis, all of Elk Creek; sister, Anita Richter (Mark) of La Grange; and seven nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Yvonne's life will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, with visitation
at 1 p.m. and a 2 p.m. service at North Point Church of Christ, 372 Loop Road, Fisherville,
Ky. Her ashes will be buried at Highland Memory Gardens, Mt. Washington, Ky.
