Allen DYKES Obituary

Spokane - Allen Dykes, age 58, passed away at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane on April 2, 2023, following a two-year battle with bile duct cancer. Born in Seattle on January 17, 1965, Allen spent his childhood in Seattle and Spokane before graduating from Bellevue High School in 1983 (where his school discus record still stands as of this printing). Allen went on to graduate from the University of Washington in 1988, where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity - a close-knit band of brothers whose lifelong friendships continue to this day. After college, Allen found his calling working in operations and management and eventually, ownership, of various companies in the homebuilding industry. Allen conducted his work and his life always striving to be on "the right side of fair" with everyone. When he wasn't working, he was giving his time and talent to a variety of organizations, such as SYSA track, Spokane Nordic Ski Association, Wilson Elementary, Lewis & Clark High School, NIBCA, and the Idaho Home Building Association, where he served as President in 2022, just to name a few. Allen's happy place was with his family. His greatest joy in life was travel and he tried to go somewhere with them as often as he could. The good life for Allen was a long walk in a great city with a fabulous museum and an even better café. There were never strangers on vacation, only new people to get to know and talk to. If you knew him, you know how warm and friendly he was. Allen genuinely cared about people, and it showed. Allen is survived by his wife, Shelley; his daughters, Sydney and Carly; his sister, Lisa, and her husband, Worth; and a large, loving extended family. He will forever be remembered as a wonderful father, little brother, brother-in-law, son, uncle, nephew, cousin, son-in-law, friend, and husband to a cast of characters whose lives are richer for having known him. Our goal here was to make you smile, perhaps make you cry, but most of all, come away from this wishing that you had known him. Those of us that did will miss him and love him for the rest of our lives. A celebration of life open house will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023, from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM at Chateau Rive in the Flour Mill, 621 W. Mallon Ave., Spokane, Washington.

"Dykes"! Thank you for hiring me on your birthday! I valued our working relationship and your never ending friendship and counsel. All of our customers loved and trusted you and continually reached out to me to see how you were doing and what new adventures you were up to! Every time you talked about your family (which was a lot), you beamed. You worked so hard (too many hours a day) but seemed to enjoy every minute of it. You were an amazing President at NIBCA, I am so thankful we were able to continue working together there. Shelley, Sydney & Carly much love and big hugs to you all. I am forever grateful to have met your husband and dad. "Berglund"

Allen was one of the most genuinely kind people I have ever met and had the pleasure of knowing. I didn´t see him often after high school but when I did it was always a delight. My deepest condolences to his wife and daughters.
