Andrew MacGILLIVRAY Obituary

June 13, 1951 ~ September 7, 2021

Andrew Duff MacGillivray passed away on September 7, 2021 after a lengthy illness. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, Cathy, recently celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. He was the proud father of their two children, Drew (Phoenix) and Brianna (Los Angeles). He was born in Spokane on June 13, 1951, the son of Donald K. and Suzanne MacGillivray, the third of six children. He attended Hutton Elementary, Sacajawea Junior High and Lewis and Clark High School (class of 1969). He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity at Washington State University. After graduating with a dual degree in Economics and Accounting, he pursued a successful career as a CPA at Seidman and Seidman and then went on to open Heiskell MacGillivray and Associates.

Andy always had a strong work ethic: he had a large paper route in grade school, delivered groceries in high school, was a union carpenter in college and professionally endured the long days of tax season. As the son of a custom home designer, Andy grew up working on his father's many projects, acquiring carpentry skills he used to put himself through college and which he later applied to countless home projects of his own. Andy had a lifelong dedication to swimming, biking and running, competing in numerous triathlons, three Boston Marathons and three Iron Man races. Most of all, Andy cherished his time traveling the world with Cathy, working in their yard, and relaxing in their Maui home. Andy was good natured, friendly and seemed to know everybody in town. His life was full and friendships were many. He will be missed by all.

Andy is also survived by sister, Heather Haverfield of Whidbey Island and brothers Scott (Maude) of Los Angeles, Don (Hye) of Seattle and Ian of Santa Monica. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Heidi.

A Funeral Mass celebrating Andy's life will be held Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church (330 E. Boone).

Dear Cathy and family,
I just found out about Andy´s passing. I´m grief-stricken. He was one of my best pals in college and we had a lot of laughs together. I´ll never forget his blue sports car and sombrero hat! I´ll also never forget his and his college roommates´ dishes piled high in the sink topped with moldy Kraft Macaroni and Cheese! Please accept my deepest condolences. I´m sending prayers and positivity your way. Rest in peace, Andy. Much love, Janet

Andy's routine (during the summer Triathlon season) would be to run-swim-run to/from Witter Pool. Andy was one of the fittest athletes in Spokane, juggling a demanding career, family life, and Ironman Triathlon training.

Andy was one of those rare souls loved by many and with not one foe on the planet. I will miss Andy's kindness to others, and his braveheart as an Ironman Triathlete.

I worked for Andy and Doug in the early 90´s. Andy was always kind, patient and helpful as he mentored me in my early accounting career. My heart goes out to his wife Cathy and his kids. Your Dad was a very nice man and a great boss.
