Anne SHERRODD Obituary

December 19, 1930 - May 28, 2025

Spokane Valley - Anne Cecilia Horswill Sherrodd, 94, passed away May 28, 2025, at the beautiful Hospice of Spokane Hospice House. She was born to Marion and Warren Horswill, December 19, 1930, in Centralia, WA. She attended elementary and high school in Winlock, WA, and Washington State College (now WSU).

Anne married W. Allen Sherrodd in Colville, WA, in 1951. They raised their five children in Spokane Valley. She was a devoted mother, making bread, canning the produce Allen grew in the garden, and sewing clothing for her children. She was a scout leader, taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir, and the choir at Orchard Crest Retirement during her final years. Both Anne and Allen won ACORN awards for their work in the PTA.

She loved camping trips when the kids were younger, enjoying the family property on Pend Oreille River, and taking memorable trips with Allen in the USA, Canada, and abroad.

Always a talented artist, she pursued her passion as the family grew up. She taught many children and adults how to paint with watercolors and participated in several art clubs and many art shows with Allen over the years. Allen was her biggest fan and supporter. When he, the love of her life, passed in 2008, after 56 years of marriage, painting lost its appeal for her.

Anne's strong Christian faith from her childhood on guided her life. She believed in the teaching of Jesus to: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength and to love your neighbor as yourself." She considered everyone her friend.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Aileen Sherrodd (Dale Vander Kooi), Alden Sherrodd (Gail), Adele Schmaltz (Rick), Al Sherrodd (Sandy), and Alice Thies (Keith); 16 grandchildren; and 25+ great-grandchildren.

She also leaves behind her sister and best friend, Nancy Horswill; and several sisters and brothers-in-law; as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Anne was predeceased by her husband, Allen Sherrodd; and brother, James Horswill.

Anne's wish was that family and friends will celebrate her long, happy life and not mourn her passing. She is home at last.

A service for Anne will be held June 27th at Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene at 11:00. Friends welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spokane Valley Partners Food Bank, or Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene, or Hospice of Spokane Hospice House.

Ann befriended my Mom when she moved to Winlock to finish her last two years of school. Ann welcomed a new shy girl with her smile and friendly attitude. She was always apart of our life.
