Arthur BROWN Obituary

BROWN,
Arthur
Justus, Jr.
(Age 90)

Passed away November 1, 2016, in Spokane, WA. Art was born to Merna J. and Arthur J. Brown, Sr., in Spokane, WA on February 19, 1926. He served in the US Navy during WWII before working as a Lineman for the phone company. He then joined the Spokane Fire Department, retiring as a Fire Equipment Operator, after more than 30 years at Station 7. Art enjoyed swimming, fishing, hunting, dancing and working cross word puzzles with wife Helen, which often lead to spirited discussions about the English language. He was a member of the VFW, an NRA trainer.
Art was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Helen (Berg); son Brian Brown; sister Jackie Kimbrough and his parents. He is survived by his sister Beverlee Connolly; his children, Rex (Carla) Brown, Mimi Strom, Eric Brown, son-in-law Harry (Shelly) Cashman and Jamie (Chris) Brown; grandchildren Lisa (Andrew), Jason (Katie), Shawn, Corey (Alicia), Patrick (Lacey), Katie (Dayne), and Grant (Darian); as well as 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 9, 2016, 1-5 PM, at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 N. Monroe, Spokane, WA. A Funeral Service, also at Hazen & Jaeger, will occur Thursday, November 10, 2016, at 10 AM, followed by interment with Navy and Fire Department Honors at Riverside Memorial Park.
The family wishes to thank Sherry and Melissa of Rescare, as well as Joel at Hospice of Spokane, for their compassionate and loving care.

I love you more than you could have even imagined, I miss you, my heart is breaking. You were the best father in-law that a person could ask for. You always showed me the utmost respect and was always there for me as I was for you especially when I lost my father. I loved listening to all your stories from your past and enjoyed the quality time we spent together when we went on our drives to Idaho. Forever in my heart just like my own dad, please say hello to him for me as I know you are both in heaven together. love and hugs as the tears roll down my face.

I had the honor of taking care of Art for almost two years. We had some great times and he really enjoyed driving to Worley and seeing the beautiful scenery. He also enjoyed sitting outside in the sunshine and watching the squirrels and birds who would devour all the food that we would put out for them. He was always talking about his adventures in the Navy and at the fire department. He loved his family dearly and not a day went by that he didn't talk about them fondly:) I am going to miss him terribly but I know he fought hard to stay with us but in the end he knew that we would all be ok. Rest in peace my dear friend and Prayers of healing to all of his family.

I love you. You were the best father in law and Grandpa anyone could ask for. I know you were tired... I know you were ready. It still hurts our Hearts though. I am honored to have been your daughter.

I will miss Art. We had some good talks when I spent nights caring for him. We talked about his family and the kids growing up. He loved his family more than anything. He would always say he did not know why he was still here on earth, but was glad that he still was. I know you are at peace now Art. It was difficult to see you decline so fast. But now you are where you should be. Good by to a proud and wonderful man who served his country and his community for so long. Your friend Kathleen

AJ was one of a kind. I worked with him on and off for years at Sta # 7. We shared laughter and tears over the years. He will not be forgotten. RB Dick
