Barbara COSTELLO

1932 - 2024

Barbara Lois Costello, 91, passed away peacefully in her home on December 23, 2023. She was born in Spokane to Albert and Blanche Deno on April 17, 1932. She was raised with eight of her siblings and valued their relationships throughout her life. She met her husband, Daniel R. Costello, at a square dance and married in 1949. They raised four children in a country home built by Dan. Barbara was a true homemaker, putting her family first. As a skilled seamstress, she outfitted her children and later sewed quilts for all her family members. Barbara let nothing go to waste and was known for her generosity. No one walked away from her home without garden vegetables or home-baked goods. Everyone who met Barbara became a friend and she loved hearing their stories. Barbara was an original member of the Catholic Church, Assumption of the BVM. She supported this beloved community for 66 years as a volunteer through both diocesan and parish organizations and supported the parish school. She was warm and inviting to all extended family members and kept in touch with them.

Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years and seven siblings. She is survived by her two sisters, Nancy Sherick and Rose Marie Roche; sons, Tom Costello (Bonni) and Gene Costello; daughters, Rita Henning (Terry) and Linda Petrie (Harold); 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

A Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM, on Thursday, January 4, at Assumption of the BVM (3624 W. Indian Trail Rd). The funeral Mass will be at Assumption of the BVM on Friday, January 5, at 11:00 AM. Immediately followed by a reception in the parish hall. The burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery (7200 N. Wall) at 2:00 PM. Donations can be sent to Assumption of the BVM.
