Barbara DUVAL Obituary
Barbara Harper Joaquin Duval entered into eternal rest on April 27, 2025, in Spokane, Washington.
Barbara was born in Nashua, New Hampshire, on May 4, 1930, to Edward Roland Harper and Ruth Brahaney Harper. Barbara grew up in a military family as her father was in the Army. Shortly after graduating from St. Joseph's High School for Girls in Manchester, New Hampshire, she went with her family to live in Manila, Philippines for several years. She then returned home to settle in Oakland, California, where she met and married her first husband, Louis W. Joaquin, who preceded her in death.
In 2007, Barbara moved to Palmetto, Florida, and married Claude Guy Duval, who preceded her in death in 2013.
In 2022, Barbara moved to Spokane, Washington, where she resided at Fairwinds Retirement Community.
She was the loving mother of Julie Joan Pulos and her husband, Dennis Pulos; and loving grandmother of Nicholas Pulos and his wife, Casey of Clermont Florida, Christopher Pulos, of El Dorado Hills, CA and Stephanie Pulos Bhalla and her husband, Karan Bhalla of El Dorado Hills, California. She was also great-grandmother to Ari Bhalla, Indigo Bhalla and Jaya Bhalla; and mother-in-law to Carolyn Wilson of Oregon, Richard Duval of Washington and Renee Angel of Montana.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Lausten of Nine Mile Falls, Washington, brother, Edward Harper (deceased), sister, Joan Anderson (deceased), and many nieces and nephews.
Her family and friends have always been the center of her life. She will be remembered for her zest for life and her love of golf, boating, schooling and her travels.
She was a lifetime member of Children's Home Society in CA and City of Hope in CA, a former Director on the Chamber of Commerce Board in Lafayette, CA, a past Commodore of Rossmore Yacht Club in Walnut Creek, CA, a past Captain of the Happy Hackers Golf Club in Walnut Creek, CA, a member of the Sun City Niners Golf Club in Roseville, CA, a past Vice President of the Spindrift Yacht Club, Oakland, CA and a member of the Delta Yacht Club in the California Delta.
In 1998, she retired after a long career in banking for forty years so she could fulfill a top priority in life, spending time with her family and friends and traveling and golfing.
During her lifetime, she continued her schooling. She studied at Holy Names College and Merritt College, both in Oakland, CA. Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, CA and until recently, was attending the Lifelong Learning Academy at USF in Sarasota, FL.
A Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 11:00am at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, located at 6122 Highway 291, Nine Mile Falls, WA 99026. The inurnment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane, WA, at a private ceremony the following week.
